Laura's latest blog, "Here We Go Again," amazed me. What on earth would cause her to spend that kind of money on braces to straighten her teeth? Of course I think like that because I am a tightwad at heart, a skinflint, and a schoolteacher with a small income to boot. And then again Laura hasn't had to deal with an unsightly appearance for decades like I have. Worrying about physical abnormalities and unusual facial oddities is old hat to me.
I was the only child in my family to not get braces. My sister's and brothers' teeth are lined up like little soldiers compared to mine, and sure enough, my bottom teeth are pell mell. However, I have been blessed with fine uppers so instead of having lower braces installed, I have developed a special little smile that has saved me the expense of an orthodontist. Here is a self-photo taken on my handy little palm pilot this morning.

If it were JUST appearances of a smile, then I wouldn't bother with the braces. I like how you have perfected your disguising smile; however I have no need for such measures. As the mother of two children under 11, I just don't smile.
Walter, you are a man after my own heart. Who doesn't love a tightwad? What's not to love about those that say, hey it is really not that bad, it doesn't need to be done, or the best one in my arsenal, it can wait. Wait for what I am never quite sure, but it works!
WTF? You have a palm pilot?????
Me or Walter with the palm pilot? Me never. My husband may try to get me to use one but I can barely use a cell phone so who needs a palm pilot when my big job of the day is driving kids around.
